What is an Ethical Breeder? I believe many miss the point somewhat on what is an ethical breeder? Many I believe have a view of ethical breeding slanted to breeding healthly dogs. Yes this is important but first one should look at what is an ethical person. “An ethical person is someone who is consistent with their beliefs by their actions and they have empathy for others. An Ethical person takes into consideration what will benefit the group or society as a whole while not engaging in self seeking behaviors.” An ethical person is someone who makes the right choices, even when it's difficult to do. So an Ethical breeder is someone who considers what is best for their dogs and the people they are dealing with regarding their dog breeding program. I use the word Christian, but I believe that does not carry the meaning that it once might have. It's easy to toss that word around and in truth it should mean the gold standard of behavior, but is often meaningless. My niece posted that someone has stole her ID, and then ordered Christian books. But there are some rules or beliefs that do stand out for a Christian if they chose to follow them. First is Love, and then forgiveness, and such thing as if someone ask you for your shirt you give them your jacket, and walk with people a mile if need be. My parents were honest and loving and so too were my grandparents. Being ethical is just a good trait to have. Having a goal to be an ethical breeder along with breeding the best dogs one can is about the best goal to have. Reaching that goal or living that goal will set you apart as a breeder.
Here at Desert Point Kennel we attempt to embody, to the best of our ability ethical breeding. Our staff embodies this and know it's our goal. Kim defines being ethical. After more than 10 years we are assured this in our costumers everyday. Just today as I write this a get a test from a loyal DPK friend after defending myself and our program in a post. Ed's text: “Why do you even listen to these jerks. Look at your client list. How many complaints have you had? Probably very little to none. I own one of your dogs as you know and have seen and interacted with many others owned by friends and acquaintances. Never heard a bad work said.” Pretty nice words. That is what we strive for.
The main reason we hardly ever have a complaint, is that complaints are always addressed in a manner that there will be nothing to complain about after we know you have a problem. We will simply do whatever it takes to make you happy. We don't just do this every once in a while with a select few, we do it each and every time for everyone. Also not just in small areas but in the largest of area too, like replacing dogs. Our 100 percent guarantee is 100 percent, every single time. If you called us up and told us your dog you got from us died at 5 years old of cancer we would give you free of charge another dog. That's the end result, but what was the beginning? We worked with you to make your puppy buying experience the best it could possible be. We understand that a puppy and later a dog is one of the most magical and spiritual experiences a person will ever have. Puppies make men and women turn into little boys and girls. So we have a website that will enhance this, you will see videos, pictures and have tons of information. Then you will most likely talk to Kim who will be like talking to your best grandmother. Then you will met the staff, and parents of the pups, and see a real pack of shorthairs, then you will get to see puppies and pick yours out. Then we will always be there for you. Over the top customer love and support. We don't hide anything, we are always open and honest. We don't have the best dogs, we don't know everything shorthairs, we don't do everything right, God knows, but people over look our shortcomings and support us because we are open, honest and loving people who do the right things for the people who invested their time and money with us. We help every single breeder or person who asked us for help. Even if that causes us more work and sometimes added stress.
So an ethical breeder is one who does right by the dogs, and right by the people.
