What is a Deutsch Kurzhaar? It is for the most part a German, German Shorthair. A Shorthair that has been bred and tested in the old German system and registered in that format. There is both a huge difference and no difference at all in the American German Shorthair. Since a German Deutsch Kurzhaar can be re registered as an American German Shorthair in all American registries the Deutsch Kurzhaar or DK can be both a DK and American Shorthair; however it can not go the other way. You can not take an American Shorthair in any American registry and register that shorthair in the DK registry.  The two main reasons as I see it is first the testing system is far more in depth in the DK system. Each DK must meat a very rigid testing system where every area is covered, from conformation to tracking. Second is the change that the Americans have made in the Shorthair, mainly type. The fact that the Americans have made the versatile shorthair into a big running dog by adding English pointer.

I will add pictures of German Deutsch Kurzhaar's to show you the build of the DK.

BUCK

Buck was born in America to the North American Deutsch Kurzhaar Club. Pleasant view kennel out of Michigan. He came to us as a two year old with the hopes of improving water work in our lines, as well as giving us a chance to look at a well bred DK.
Picture

Sophie

Sophie was born in Germany and came to us via family that was stationed there. She is a very good versatile hunting dog with great water work and heavy fur drive.
Picture

Qiana

This is Qiana, she was born in Serbia and is almost all Hege-Haus line. Almost ever dog in her pedigree is a Hege-Haus dog. We have not bred to her as of late 2017 but we are looking forward to seeing how her pups turn out.

Below is not so good of a picture of a German Deutsch Kurzhaar who has the German Champion title of KS, that was imported to America to the Hainholz kennel. He then became an American German Shorthaired Pointer and was registered in the AKC registry. Ybod Rothenuffeln, who then became an American Dual Champion. The only dog that I know of to hold both titles. This dog is the great grandsire of our Scout.

Picture
Below is another German DK who was imported to America, again to the Hainholz kennel and was co owned by Daisy Schapheer and Brent Henry. Bodo V Walrand. Bodo also became an American Dual Champion. Maybe the last imported dog to receive an American Dual Championship. Bodo is a grandsire to our Scout, and below you can see Scout's  pedigree and see how both Bodo and Ybold's  influence.
