We have done our best to send home with you a healthy puppy and we are sure that we have; however there are a few things that are out of our control, and we want to give you some information, and recommendations.
Your puppy has been sent home after having been vaccinated twice for Parvo, and 4 other concerns. We use Vanguard Plus 5, if you are interested in looking that vaccine up. You will need to give at least one more Parvo vaccine 3 weeks after the date of the last vaccine shown on the puppies health record that was sent home with you.
Next is the issue of: Worms, Giardia, and Coccidia. We have treated each puppy for these.
Worms will probably not be an issue for your puppy but will be something to keep in mind, and you may want to do a preventive treatment when your pup is 6 months old.
Giardia, may or may not be a concern, depending on how your puppies immune system has responded to the Giardia that the pup has been exposed to. Giardia is a protozoan parasite that can infect the gastrointestinal track of dogs and is capable of causing diarrhea, vomiting, weight loss and lethargy. Although many infected puppies show no signs at all.
Coccidia infection can cause diarrhea and can be fatal in puppies. However, many dogs show no symptoms.
Giardia and Coccidia are both intestinal Protozoan parasites that are common in young puppies.
If you puppy has diarrhea Giardia and Coccidia are the main concern. However diarrhea in puppies can be caused by a large number of things, and can range from mild to severe.
How to get rid of diarrhea in puppies. For minor diarrhea cases a few items in your cupboard can help. First binding foods such as white rice. Try mixing rice with chicken or broth to enhance the flavor. Fiber from cooked sweet potato or canned pumpkin, not pie filling. Second is beneficial bacteria, yogurt has beneficial bacteria that can help restore balance in the belly and firm up stools. Third, over the counter treatment such as anti diarrheal medicine such as Petpo Bismol, Kaopectate, and Immodium AD are generally okay to give to pets with upset stomachs. You can also purchase medicine made specifically for dogs like DiaBec,

This in Fenbendazole and can be found in the de-wormer Safeguard, and this is what we used before the your puppy was sent home. You might want to buy the horse size tube sold at any feed store, Tractor Supply, and Wal Marts that have feed, for around $10.00. The dose in 1 to 2 ml per 5 pounds, for 5 days.
There is only one Coccidia medication that I know of that can be got over the counter and that is Toltrazuril 5% 200ml and is bought at Horseprerace.com, at approx. $60.00 for approx. 12 oz. This is what we treated your puppy with before it went home with you.
All That being said, If you puppy is unable to overcome diarrhea then a trip to the vet is in order. The vet should be able to identify the exact cause of the diarrhea and treat accordingly.
Last is Bordetella or Kennel Cough, vaccine is something you may want to consider. We have in the past gave this vaccine to puppies before they went to their new home; however we encountered Kennel Cough systems in two consecutive litters after giving the vaccine, and we came to the conclusion that it would be better to let the puppies get older, so we are leaving this vaccine up to the puppy buyer.
